Flames.It was 1972. I stood silently in the driveway with my brother and younger sister. I still remember the acrid smell of wood smoke as it rushed, billowing away from the building. We heard a crash; something had collapsed, pushing black smoke and golden flames violently out of the door and windows, so fragile now, drawing contrast against the silvery night sky. I still remember the shattered glass and splintered wood, like so many broken bones, and the frightened, frantic screams of my sister as she realised our parents were not with us. I felt a hot, salty tear run down my cheek, drawing a track through the ash on my face and dropping off my ch Flames.

I Weep.Another stifled cry was torn mercilessly from my lips as I struggled to turn my eyes back to the blurred page. This book was certainly tough on the emotional front, I thought darkly. I gave in and dissolved, pathetically, into tears. The hot, salty drops burned my lips like fire as they coursed down my face. Sobs wracked my body, and I turned and buried my head into the back of the plush chair to keep from crying out and waking the household. I sat there for what seemed like hours. Finally, I had brought my wayward emotions into check, and I stood up and appraised myself in the mirror. My eyes were pitch black, eyelashes standing out and glis I Weep.
